Sala 4
The lecture will examine several salient features of some female characters in Giacomo Puccini's operas. Dramaturgical and musical peculiarities of different characters from different situations and operas will be discussed. It will not just be a matter of describing what can be inferred from librettos or scores; it will be a matter of reading these characteristics in relation to the artistic and human evolution of Puccini himself. In this way it will also be possible to say a great deal about his vision of theater, his way of relating to theater and writing for it. Above all, it will be possible to understand how current his message is. The lecture also wants to show how the change of the female figure also corresponds to a harmonic evolution of Puccini's musical language. The goal is to give the listener tools and a key to enter more deeply into roles that are already well known but often not considered in their dramaturgical complexity and therefore not fully appreciated for their beauty
