Teatro Foce

Between ducks with glasses, musical instruments and amusing and poetic suggestions, I brutti anatroccoli seeks to move us by telling us that everyone can turn their weaknesses into strengths. Whatever the starting point, whatever the circumstances.

What makes us feel “right” or, conversely, “wrong” compared to how we “should be”?
For a child, every moment is the construction of a fragment of their identity. And the world around them is full of models, stereotypes, ideals of efficiency and “beauty” that make it all too easy to feel out of place. Just wearing glasses, taking a little longer than others to read a sentence, having slightly darker or lighter skin, struggling to get over a step in a wheelchair, being a little too sensitive... or just a little.
Locked in your emotions, you can feel a void, as if something is missing.
But it is precisely from that lack that you can start building. The times we live in seem to be testing us: they ask us to develop as individuals by accepting – and valuing – the differences and uniqueness that each of us brings to the table.
Andersen's fairy tale, from which the title takes its inspiration, is reinterpreted here as an archetype, a classic that transcends time to touch on a universal issue: the sense of belonging, identity, the deep need to be recognised. A fairy tale that is transformed to speak to our present. And, above all, to the children of today.
