"Why do I barely know my grandmother's past?" El Pacto del Olvido is a work about the intergenerational transmission of the memory of Francoism. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Franco's death, which makes the work even more relevant in the current historical context, especially with the increasing spread of authoritarian and extremist rhetoric globally. Through a collection of intimate looks at Spain's collective memory, this play stems from a reflection: in order to investigate political violence, it is necessary to unveil habits of domestic oppression, to confront the dimension of oblivion by exploring the consequences that this historical omission has produced from generation to generation. Selffiction and historical analysis go hand in hand in this exercise on remembrance that, through the language of light, examines the contours of collective silence, inviting the audience to wander through the gaps through which repressed pain has silently filtered over decades. With a desire to intimately mitigate the trauma caused by official history, Casero explores different generational conducts with respect to institutionalized amnesia, such as that embodied by her family.
