Music by Mozart, Rodrigo, Beethoven

The Ticino Musica Festival Orchestra, conducted by Lü Jia, brings together young musicians selected from all over the world in a programme that spans key works from the orchestral repertoire, ranging from the Classical period to the 20th century. From the overture to The Magic Flute to the Concierto de Aranjuez, from the Sinfonia concertante attributed to Mozart to Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, the evening alternates between theatrical momentum, dialogue between soloists and orchestra, and grand symphonic structures.

To mark its 30th anniversary, Ticino Musica presents a new edition of the Festival Orchestra, an international project that brings together young musicians from all over the world in Ticino for two weeks of training, rehearsals and concerts. They will be led by Lü Jia, artistic director of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and music director of the China NCPA Orchestra.
The programme opens with Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, poised between symbolic solemnity and theatrical liveliness. At its heart, Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez entrusts the guitar with a continuous dialogue with the orchestra, evoking luminous atmospheres and rhythms of the Spanish tradition. The Sinfonia concertante attributed to Mozart brings together the oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn in a composition that alternates between chamber music virtuosity and orchestral breadth. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, built upon the famous four-note motif and developed as a dramatic journey that progresses from the initial tension towards an affirmative and luminous finale.
