Agorà

21:00

Three groups that have redefined the relationship with folk music come together for an evening dedicated to the accordion and its expressive possibilities. Pflanzplätz reinterpret Swiss tradition through nearly forty years of shared experience and ongoing exploration of the Schwyzerörgeli’s timbre. Duo Bottasso blends Alpine roots, improvisation and electronica in a contemporary folk style open to experimentation. Finally, Pirmin Huber Swiss Folk builds a bridge between Swiss folk forms, jazz grooves and original compositions.

Pflanzplätz
Jürg Nietlispach double bass, acoustic guitar, long-necked zither
Simon Dettwiler Schwyzerörgeli
Thomas Aeschbacher Schwyzerörgeli, cajón

Active for almost forty years, Pflanzplätz have developed – and continually reinvented – a distinctive musical language that blends traditional and contemporary Swiss folk music, whilst remaining open to other folk repertoires. At the heart of their sound lie the Schwyzerörgeli and double bass, occasionally accompanied by other instruments and a constant taste for improvisation. Original compositions, experimentation and freedom of performance give shape to music rooted in tradition yet open to surprise.

Duo Bottasso “Postcards from Italy”
Nicolò Bottasso violin, tenor d’amore, live electronics
Simone Bottasso accordion, live electronics

For over twenty years, Simone and Nicolò Bottasso have been pursuing a creative exploration that spans folk, contemporary and electronic music, as well as improvisation, bringing Alpine traditions into dialogue with contemporary musical languages. With Postcards from Italy – a collection of original music created for a film based on archive material from early 20th-century Italy – Simone and Nicolò Bottasso transform memories and the atmosphere of the era into a series of “musical postcards” born from the encounter between composition, experimentation and improvisation.

Pirmin Huber Swiss Folk
Pirmin Huber double bass
Andreas Gabriel violin
Dominik Eberle guitar
Fabian Eberle drums

With Pirmin Huber Swiss Folk, the Swiss double bassist has created a project that weaves together elements of Swiss folk tradition and jazz grooves. Original compositions built around elements of Volksmusik (such as the Jütze, Stümpeli and Schottisch dances) give rise to a style in which improvisation, folk tradition and experimentation coexist. Centred around the double bass, the heart of the musical discourse, the group strikes a balance between archaic sounds, rhythmic energy and contemporary influences.
