Camilla Barbarito and the Grand Tabazù fanfare reinterpret Milan and its anthem – ‘La canzone della mala’ by Enzo Jannacci and Ornella Vanoni – through an original lens, blending French influences, musical theatre and Dadaist touches. Alongside Barbarito’s intense and magnetic voice, eleven musicians playing woodwinds, brass, percussion, keyboards and strings bring to life a performance with a powerful sonic and visual impact.
The repertoire traverses the rough and fascinating world of Milanese ligéra, ranging from Italian mambo to echoes of vintage soundtracks and singer-songwriter music. The result is a heartfelt tribute to the city of Milan and its popular imagery: music that weaves together irony, memory and a desire for escape, revealing the city’s most restless and daring side.
