Blending jazz, electronic and ambient music, Nils Petter Molvær brings a suspended, cinematic soundscape to the LAC. With his own band, the Norwegian trumpeter crafts intense, immersive musical landscapes in which improvisation, sound design and electronic music intertwine to form a personal language that has redefined the boundaries of contemporary jazz.
A central figure in European jazz over the past few decades, Nils Petter Molvær has developed a musical path that defies simple definition, positioning himself at the intersection of improvisation, electronic music and sound exploration. Since the 1990s, his work has made a decisive contribution to the emergence of a hybrid language that blends jazz, ambient, dub and post-rock, whilst always maintaining a strong expressive identity.
A defining moment in this journey was the album Khmer, which marked a turning point in his career, introducing a new relationship between trumpet and electronics and opening up new digital perspectives for jazz. Since then, Molvær has built a recognisable sonic universe, characterised by essential melodic lines and a continuous exploration of timbre.
Alongside Jo Berger Myhre on bass and Erland Dahlen on drums, his music unfolds in open forms that are in constant transformation. The interplay between the three instruments generates dense, layered soundscapes, balancing composition and improvisation, whilst the work on sound – in which Sven Persson’s sound design plays a central role – becomes an integral part of the listening experience.
