The LA MARIA art project brings  Maybe a Concert to the LAC, a performative concert conceived by Raissa Avilés, a Swiss singer, performer and songwriter of Mexican origin, which challenges the boundaries between music and performance. Electronic, jazz and pop music come together to create a hybrid space where identities, languages and genres intertwine.

With Maybe a Concert, the LA MARIA project transcends the traditional concert format, combining music and stage action within an open structure. On stage, recognisable yet alienating figures – a mariachi musician in stiletto heels, a glittering cowboy – inhabit an imaginary world that blends Mexican folk tradition, variety shows, Westerns and pop culture.
Directed by Raúl Vargas Torres, the different layers of the performance do not overlap but burst into one another, reshuffling hierarchies and languages. The music, largely original (by Raissa Avilés and Balázs Várnai), spans various genres – from folk to indie, with jazz elements and baroque influences – and finds unity in Alix Logiaco’s arrangements.
At the heart of the work is Raissa Avilés’s voice, understood as a practice that connects body, identity and the stage space. The result is a hybrid form which, through a blend of irony and tension, explores the possibilities of artistic and personal autonomy within systems marked by compromise and contradiction.
