The project explores the multifaceted nature that the concept of memory takes on in the contemporary world, linking the progressive expansion of digital memory with the gradual weakening of biological and cerebral memory. In a context where data storage consumes ever-increasing amounts of space and energy, the absorption of lived memory by delegated memory is becoming increasingly evident. The question we ask is to what extent digital archiving systems are redefining, or even replacing, human mnemonic processes. What remains when individual memory fades or is erased? We seek to observe how the digitisation of memory, now a direct evolution of the human being, may prove to be both an extension of mnemonic capacity and a cognitive deterioration at the individual and then collective level. The work takes the form of a collective piece, in which the various authorial perspectives draw upon the same archive of sound-memories, reinterpreting them according to an open narrative that is susceptible to deviations at every stage of the creative process.
The original memories are reworked, abstracted and recombined through digital processes, intertwining with further sound materials and sometimes undergoing a radical transformation of their initial form. The project takes the form of a collective acousmatic work conceived for performance in an ambisonic environment, with the aim of creating an immersive experience in which sound becomes the primary narrative and perceptual vehicle. Alongside the acoustic dimension, the project includes a significant visual component, entrusted to Maestro Fabrizio Rosso, who will amplify the dramaturgy of the sounds, highlighting the transformation of the memories.
