Tovel, also known as Matteo Franceschini, brings *Songbook* to the LAC—a project co-produced by the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana and commissioned by the Venice Biennale, where the composer was awarded the Silver Lion. The work creates a dialogue between contemporary composition, rock, and live electronic music.

An internationally active composer, performer, and multi-instrumentalist, Matteo Franceschini explores a body of work that spans contemporary and electronic music, establishing a novel relationship between composition and performance. With *Songbook*, a work presented at the Venice Biennale, the song form is explored from an experimental perspective, examining its structures and expressive possibilities.
The project brings together a rock quartet, an amplified ensemble, and live electronics in a sonic framework where different musical languages coexist while retaining their distinct characteristics. The interaction among the musicians is built on contrasts, distortions, and shifts in direction, resulting in a structure unfolding through a sequence of interconnected songs.
Balancing energy and compositional rigor, *Songbook* creates a tension between the complexity of contemporary composition and the immediate impact of electro-rock, exploring a borderland that lies at the heart of Franceschini’s entire body of work. The result is an open form, in which composition and performance unfold as a single process.
