An event dedicated to world music featuring Kinan Azmeh, a Syrian clarinettist and composer who is one of the most recognisable voices on the international scene. Born in Damascus and now based in New York, he will be performing at the LAC with his ensemble CityBand in a concert that spans cultures and musical languages, blending improvisation, rhythmic energy and a sound that seamlessly unites tradition and modernity in a direct and captivating way.
A graduate of the Juilliard School, Kinan Azmeh has built an international career as a soloist, composer and improviser, collaborating with some of the leading musical institutions and bringing his music to the world’s most prestigious concert halls. His compositional style is distinguished by a personal voice that traverses different genres, whilst always maintaining a strong connection to his cultural roots.
With his ensemble CityBand, founded in New York in 2006, Azmeh develops a musical language born from the encounter between classical music, jazz and Syrian tradition. Alongside his clarinet, the guitar, double bass and percussion create a dynamic and ever-changing sonic tapestry, in which each musician contributes their own expressive identity.
The musical focus of the concert is improvisation, understood as a space for dialogue and freedom. The programme includes tracks from the album Live in Berlin and new compositions, offering a contemporary perspective on a musical exploration that combines tradition, experimentation and openness to different musical languages.
