Back on stageAntropolaroid, an original and innovative monologue in which Tindaro Granata, using the ancient Sicilian ‘cunto’ storytelling technique, recounts his family’s history whilst exploring themes such as a sense of justice, solidarity, the struggle for love and the quest for freedom. A performance of sombre beauty, blending anthropological research with photographic imagery.
By retracing and dramatising the most significant episodes of his family history – from the early 20th century to the present day – the Italian author and actor reworks Sicily’s ‘Cunti’ theatre in a highly original way: the narrative structure is replaced by the staging of dialogues between the characters, who speak to one another, bringing the story to life.
Alone on stage, Granata traverses decades, generations and destinies, bringing to life men and women of all ages: familiar figures, a land – Sicily – and the desire to leave, to reach Rome, to become an actor, to make films. Through games, dances, work, relationships and fears, he constructs a universe populated by many characters, whilst remaining alone on stage: one and many at the same time.
For its originality and innovative impact on the Italian theatre scene, Antropolaroid has received numerous awards, including the People’s Jury Prize at the “Anna Pancirolli Theatre Grant”, the ANCT Award from the National Association of Theatre Critics in 2011 and the Fersen Award for “Creative Actor” in 2012.
