The difficulty of imagining the future in a present marked by uncertainty is reflected in contemporary artistic practices, where the search for new languages intertwines with a reinterpretation of personal and collective memory. How do the performing arts today connect the past and the future? And is artistic experimentation truly moving beyond the categories inherited from the 20th century?
The first public event of Laterale, the new research group promoted by LAC and FIT Festival, brings together the scientific committee—composed of Maddalena Giovannelli, Rossella Menna, Francesca Serrazanetti, Diego Vincenti, and directors Carmelo Rifici and Paola Tripoli—for a shared reflection on these themes.  

“Tradizione Futura” is the title of the project’s first cycle, which to date has featured Caroline Guiela Nguyen, Trajal Harrell, Lukasz Twarkowski, and Mario Banushi.  

Lateral. Like thought. Like criticism. Like an inquiry capable of crossing languages and disciplines, fueled by encounters with the leading figures of the contemporary scene. A new research group formed by Maddalena Giovannelli, Rossella Menna, Francesca Serrazanetti, and Diego Vincenti—in dialogue with Carmelo Rifici and Paola Tripoli—is launching a project to analyze theater and the performing arts, selecting a specific theme each year around which to create series of video interviews and podcasts, produced by the LAC team.
