Together with a group of teenagers between the ages of 16 and 22, Alan Alpenfelt compares his youthful utopian visions with those of today. Drawing on video games, the artist from Ticino explores three stages of life: childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Each stage has levels to overcome: in childhood, the first cracks appear; in adolescence, we struggle to overcome them and change; as adults, the harshness of reality often leads to disillusionment.
Is there anything we can do in the face of events that leave us feeling powerless? What are our monsters, and can we ever defeat them? What are the perfect worlds we dream of, and can we ever create them? How many lives do we have left to make it happen?
Checkpoint Utopia (working title)
is a project by Alan Alpenfelt, co-created with Elisa Bisig, Irma de Marchi, Asia Delmenico, Aziz Hassanyan, Linda Manconi, Alisina Mohammadi, Katarina Ristanović, Edy Sardei, Serena Shala, Timmothy (Timmy) Tekle, Petra Venturo, Giulia Vitale, and Kyrylo Yatsenko.
“Sentieri selvaggi” is the FIT Festival’s three-year project, which gives the younger generation the opportunity to take the lead in a co-creation process, engaging with one another and broadening their critical perspective on the world. The program involves working alongside a professional artist—a different one each year—who serves as curator, tutor, and guide. The result of this collaborative effort will be transformed into an artistic work presented as part of the FIT editions in 2025, 2026, and 2027.
