The Lugano Opera Choir, the soloists and the Opera ViVa Orchestra, conducted by Andrea Cupia, invite you to the concert in support of the Associazione Amici di Dominique Lapierre Ticino. "Nella guerra è la follia” (In war it’s foolery) is the title of a piece from the opera “La forza del destino” (The Force of Destiny), performed alongside other choral compositions by Handel, Verdi, Wagner, Humpeldinck, Smetana and Puccini. These have been chosen to commemorate and honour figures who have dedicated their lives to peace and justice, above all Dominique Lapierre.
With its engaging and exciting atmospheres, the music chosen will express the desire for peace shared by all of us.
Lyrical concert conducted by Maestro Andrea Cupia, with the Coro Lirico di Lugano, the Opera ViVa Orchestra and soloists, in support of the Associazione Amici di Dominique Lapierre Ticino. The concert is featuring choral works by Georg Friedrich Händel, Giuseppe Verdi, Richard Wagner, Engelbert Humpeldinck, Bedřich Smetana and Giacomo Puccini. The programme aims to highlight the importance of peace and to honour personalities who have dedicated their lives and energy to dissolving conflicts and seeking justice. Among these, we emphasise the example of Dominique Lapierre French journalist, writer, philanthropist and man of peace.
The title “Nella guerra è la follia” (In war it’s foolery) is taken from one of the pieces performed in the first part of the concert, consisting mainly of selected excerpts from Giuseppe Verdi's opera “La forza del destino” (The Force of Destiny). To be able to fulfil our purpose, we suggest taking these terms, war, madness, force and destiny, and rearranging them in such a way as to express the hope that the madness of war will give way to the force of peace in order to change the destiny of all.
Our hope for peace, which shares the dream of the Associazione Amici di Dominique Lapierre Ticino, will not be expressed through grand speeches or emphatic promises, but through music and its delicate, passionate, evocative or simple atmospheres, by means of its emotionally charged contents, that go straight from the ears to the heart and smooth out even the artistic and ideological conflicts surrounding divisive figures such as Richard Wagner’.
