World premieres, young composers and one of the leading ensembles dedicated to contemporary music: the closing concert of the tenth edition of the International Young Composers & Conductors Academy brings together at the LAC the works created during two weeks of creative collaboration and discussion in the Onsernone Valley. Together with the Ensemble intercontemporain and contralto Helēna Sorokina, young composers and conductors from all over the world present new works written especially for this edition.

The closing concert of the International Young Composers & Conductors Academy marks the culmination of the first edition of the Alta Voce festival and the tenth edition of the IYCA, a project that brings together young composers and conductors from all over the world in Ticino each year for an intensive programme of study, creation and collaboration. Based in Loco, in the Onsernone Valley, the Academy offers a programme that combines musical composition, mentoring, lectures and direct work with performers specialising in contemporary music.
The star of this edition is the Ensemble intercontemporain, founded in 1976 by Pierre Boulez and now one of the leading international ensembles for 20th- and 21st-century music. In dialogue with the ensemble’s musicians, contralto Helēna Sorokina and tutors Chaya Czernowin, Michael Jarrell, Oscar Bianchi and Oscar Jockel, participants have developed new works presented here in world premiere and conducted by the selected young musicians.
The IYCA stands out for an approach that focuses on the direct relationship between composition, sound and performance, encouraging the exchange of different compositional and cultural practices within a context of shared research.
