A director, set designer, lighting designer, and costume designer, Castellucci is internationally recognized for creating a form of theater rooted in the totality of the arts, in which the power of images and the interdisciplinary nature of artistic languages take center stage.  
Just a few days before *Credere alle maschere* (a performance presented at MASI Lugano from January 29 to 31, 2027), Castellucci and Di Matteo—the playwright of this work and of *Faust. Fatto, non detto, staged on February 22 and 23 in the Sala Teatro—will delve into the artist’s philosophy and creative process. The conversation will explore fundamental themes of his work: the relationship between image and word—including the new possibilities offered by technology—the role of the body on stage, and the dialogue between tradition and experimentation, art, science, and perception.  

Piersandra Di Matteo is a scholar, dramaturg, and curator in the field of the performing arts. She is a member of PerLA | Performance Epistemologies Research Lab at the IUAV University of Venice, where she taught for many years. In 2026, she was an Associate Research Scholar at the Italian Academy at Columbia University in New York; in 2017, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Graduate Center of CUNY. Since 2008, she has been a close theoretical collaborator of Romeo Castellucci, with whom she works as a dramaturg at international theater and opera institutions. She has given lectures and seminars at universities and international research centers, including Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, the School of Creative Media in Hong Kong, the Shanghai Theatre Academy, LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, DAS Theatre and SNDO in Amsterdam, UQAM in Montréal, MITsp in São Paulo, and the Pistoletto Foundation. She served as artistic director of Short Theatre (2021–2024) and the Atlas of Transitions Biennale (2017–2020). Since 2024, she has been curating residency projects for the Académie of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. She is currently Curator-at-Large for FAULT.
