Julia Gertseva mezzo-soprano singer, accompanies tomorrow's viewers on a journey into the world of opera and the discovery of the universes of Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana and Francis Poulenc's La voix humaine.

The dimension of opera is something fascinating, something that intrigues. Mezzo-soprano Julia Gertseva tells children, young people and their families about her experience as an artist and introduces them to the contents of LAC's new opera proposal.

The beauty of Julia Gertseva's voice and rich mezzo-soprano timbre, dramatic talent and stage presence have enabled her to tread the world's best stages: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, San Carlo in Naples, Bayerische Staatsoper, Massimo in Palermo, Regio in Turin, Reale in Madrid, Mariinsky in St. Petersburg, Bolshoi in Moscow, Wiener Staatsoper, Bellini in Catania, Comunale in Bologna, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Royal Opera House in Muscat, alongside theaters in Antwerpen, Liège, Ghent, Oslo, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and Cape Town.
At only 18 she began her artistic career, still a student at the St. Petersburg Conservatory where she graduated with honors in singing, piano and choral conducting.
In 2004 she sang the role of Charlotte in Massenet's Werther at the Comunale di Bologna together with Andrea Bocelli (DECCA CD), in the same year she made her debut at La Scala in Milan singing the main part in Bizet'sCarmen.The role of Carmen stands out in her career becoming her "workhorse." Julia was chosen by Maestro Georges Prêtre for his latestCarmen role that earned her the Gianni Poggi International Prize.
The singer's repertoire includes more than 40 roles in operas and many lieder and romance programs.
She has worked with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Semyon Bychkov, Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Georges Prêtre, Mstislav Rostropovich, Juraj Valcuha, Yuri Temirkanov, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, and Myung-Whun Chung.
In Lugano, she founded the educational project La Musica di Julia Gertseva in order to pass on her vast musical, vocal and theatrical experience. He actively participates in the cultural life of Canton Ticino and is very sensitive to the dissemination and education of music in schools. She collaborates with the LAC with the project The World of Opera with Julia Gertseva dedicated to families.
