Mirjam Waser, piano
Daniel Maszkowicz, composer

The pianist and toy pianist Mirjam Waser brings an extraordinary performance to the LAC: a musical happening in the Dadaist style. This happening pays homage to Dadaism, but with the clear intention of transposing its spirit into today’s socio-political reality. The main aim of this project is to highlight current global issues such as climate change, the spread of fake news, the resurgence of nationalist and fascist ideologies, and the new arms race, through the lens of Dadaism: absurd, critical, ironic and poetic. All the compositions are characterised by great stylistic variety, theatrical elements and a marked propensity for sonic experimentation. The result is a musical and theatrical performance that is at once lively, entertaining, eccentric and profound. Let yourself be surprised and witness the reawakening of Dadaism in Lugano. The performance will also feature the world premiere of a Dadaist-style piece by Geneva-based composer Daniel Maszkowicz.

Born in Bern, Switzerland, she has consistently embodied the magic of music, forging a distinctive and multifaceted artistic career. From a young age, she immersed herself in music, studying the piano, violin and viola, whilst also nurturing a love of singing and dance. Mirjam Waser continued her academic studies at the University of Bern, where she focused on musicology and theatre and dance studies. Her curiosity and passion for performance took her to Belgium, where she honed her piano skills at the Conservatoire royal de Liège. Even during her Bachelor’s studies, she demonstrated a strong interest in contemporary music and improvisation, which have become central elements of her artistic identity. This deep passion for the contemporary repertoire brought her back to Switzerland, where she completed a Master’s degree in Contemporary Music Performance and Interpretation at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, graduating with top marks. As a performer, Mirjam Waser’s artistic activities span the whole of Europe, where she also delights audiences with her explorations of Dadaism and theatrical elements in music. An advocate of unconventional soundscapes, she is also a passionate toy-pianist, expanding the expressive possibilities of this unique instrument. Through her work, Mirjam Waser continues to push boundaries, redefining the relationship between music, performance and theatricality.
