Following the huge success ofPsycho last season, the LAC continues its programme of film screenings accompanied by live music. Returning to the big screen is Blade Runner, the 1982 science-fiction masterpiece directed by Ridley Scott. Vangelis’s dark and melodic soundtrack is performed live by The Avex Ensemble, in sync with the film.
With Blade Runner Live, the LAC presents a new screening experience with live music. Ridley Scott’s celebrated film, which received two Oscar nominations, is presented in the Final Cut version on a large high-definition screen. Vangelis’s soundtrack, a fundamental element of the film’s identity, blends electronic, ambient and orchestral elements, helping to define one of the most recognisable soundscapes in contemporary cinema.
Performed in its entirety live for the first time in sync with the images, the score takes shape through the interpretation of The Avex Ensemble, recreating the timbral complexity and atmospheric impact of the original soundtrack.
Set in a dystopian Los Angeles, the film follows detective Rick Deckard, tasked with hunting down a group of replicants who have escaped to Earth. The mission becomes complicated when he meets Rachel, an enigmatic figure who challenges the boundaries between human and artificial.
Described by Time Out magazine as ‘the most immersive and tangible world ever created for cinema’, Blade Runner remains a benchmark for science fiction and for reflection on the relationship between technology, identity and memory.
