A journey through the contrasts of 1970s Italy, told through the stories of the key figures who take turns on stage to give voice to a profound and powerful reflection on a decade marked by dramatic terrorist attacks and fundamental social and civil achievements.

The 1970s were a decade of extreme contrasts: on the one hand, the terror of political massacres and armed groups; on the other, the battles for civil rights and the reforms that transformed Italian society. Italy was transformed under the constant threat of attacks; it shed its old skin amidst the terror of kidnappings; it found new awareness as certainties crumbled around it.
Written by journalist and writer Mario Calabresi, writer and historian Benedetta Tobagi, and author and podcast host Sara Poma, with an unpublished and personal account by journalist and essayist Marco Damilano, The 1970s: Terror and Rights explores these contradictions, recounting a period that defined Italy’s recent history. Through narration, images and a soundtrack of the songs that accompanied the most significant moments, the audience is immersed in the stories of those who actually lived through those events.
