"Black" is a dance piece—a visual and musical chronicle—inspired by various African street dance styles (including coupé-décalé, ndomboló, Afrohouse, and krump) and the African diaspora in the U.S.
Black is a reflection on violence and the emancipation of the Black community in today’s world, through a body that challenges and unsettles—a body that is both wounded and celebrated.
Ivorian choreographer and performer Oulouy draws on recent history—such as the Black Lives Matter movement and the murder of George Floyd—to rethink the body of Black Africans in the Western world. This iconic performance is considered a danced anthem for the Afro-European artistic community.
Double Bill: A Night of Resistance
The show is part of the "A Night of Resistance" event and is preceded by *Just One Tile*, a dance performance by Egyptian choreographer and performer Islam Elarabi.
