Pianist Nathalia Milstein, an interpreter with a refined touch and profound musical sensitivity, presents a programme that explores the evolution of piano writing through four masterpieces spanning a wide time frame from Classicism to the 20th century. A musical experience of great intensity, in which the variety of forms and languages translates into a dialogue between different eras and sensibilities.
From Haydn to Prokofiev, the concert programme moves between classicism, heroism, lyricism and drama, offering an overview of the expressive versatility of the instrument. The common thread is the principle of variation and the piano's ability to translate pathos through different formal structures. The concert opens with Haydn's Variations in F minor, which present themselves as a form of musical meditation in which the elegiac element emerges delicately. This is followed by Beethoven's Eroica Variations, which showcase the composer's mastery of the art of variation. Liszt's Funérailles – one of the Hungarian composer's most dramatic works – is followed by Prokofiev's Sonata No. 8, characterised by a rich harmonic language and powerful piano writing. Nathalia Milstein, with her natural talent and expressive finesse, renders the complexity and beauty of these works, highlighting their stylistic and expressive characteristics with a performance that combines impeccable technique and emotional intensity.
