Considered one of the most innovative groups on the Scandinavian jazz scene, the Arcanum quartet arrives in Lugano with a musical language that blends chamber jazz, minimalism and free improvisation. Founded in 2023, the group explores a sound universe rich in timbral nuances, suspended between lyricism and intensity. With Arve Henriksen, Trygve Seim, Anders Jormin and Markku Ounaskari, each performance is a unique musical journey that enchants with its unpredictability and expressive depth.
The Nordic jazz tradition is a continuous search for balance between composition and improvisation, between sound and silence. Arcanum's sound universe feeds on layers of timbre, alternating moments of lyrical intensity with spaces of relaxed musical breathing. Henriksen, with his ethereal and suffused trumpet, recalls the sounds of the Japanese shakuhachi or the Armenian duduk, while Seim weaves melodic lines suspended between European jazz tradition and Eastern microtonal inflections. Jormin's double bass supports the sound texture with a lyricism that moves between pulsation and abstraction. Finally, Ounaskari's percussion transforms the rhythm into atmospheric suggestion, evoking echoes of Finnish folk music and the Orthodox tradition. The repertoire, built on original compositions, develops into collective improvisations, where each piece becomes a narrative journey of tension and release: an intense and hypnotic sound experience.
