Stefano Cordella wrote and directed Bovary, an original reinterpretation of Gustave Flaubert's famous novel, one of the greatest works of French and world literature. The show focuses on the relationship between Emma and Charles Bovary, told through scenes from a marriage: brief glimpses of a love that is constantly questioned and put to the test.

Bovary is a rebellious and decadent anti-heroine who is not content with a bourgeois life and does not accept the mediocrity that surrounds her. She intensely experiences the conflict between the infinite nuances of the ideal and the disappointment of reality. She suffers from seeing her expectations betrayed and is restless in every area of her life: in her marriage, at work and in her relationships. Her existence is a continuous “move” from one space of desire to another. Happiness seems to be there, just a step away, almost within reach. But it is never enough.
“The idea,” explain Elena Patacchini and Stefano Cordella, “is to portray this unstable, ever-changing space that fades away as soon as it seems to have taken shape. Bovary is hungry for experiences, she struggles to enjoy what she has, always ready to 'consume” something new, even at the cost of consuming herself.'
