The young Basel artist Annina Polivka directs and performs Confession, a solo piece that takes the audience on an inner journey: a sound journey through the past, the present and an imagined future.
How can we bear the weight of existence when every step we take seems to lead us inexorably towards the slow destruction of the planet?
In the solitude of a hotel room, seemingly isolated from the world, a young woman tries to answer this fateful question. She disconnects from the outside world and withdraws into herself, determined to re-emerge only when she feels ready.
Using sound material collected throughout her life – fragments of voices, memories set to music, everyday noises – Annina Polivka reconstructs a personal universe, a refuge where she can exist without feeling ashamed. Or at least, that is what she hopes.
With her solo Confession, Annina Polivka creates a space of respite where, even if only for a moment, one can still believe, perhaps naively, that everything will work out. A place where the fragile hope of reconciliation emerges. All with humour, delicacy, sensitivity and a refined sense of sonic detail.
