Suonno d’Ajere reinterprets Neapolitan song with a perspective that is both respectful and vibrant, through fresh, passionate and elegant renditions that delve into its most authentic soul without succumbing to stereotypes. Around Irene Scarpato’s voice, the mandolin, mandocello and guitar weave a refined sound, capable of maintaining a firm link with tradition whilst, at the same time, opening it up to a contemporary sensibility.
This ‘dream of yesterday’ – a name referring to the title of a song by Pino Daniele – thus becomes a tribute to the musical history of Naples, reinterpreted with a modern touch within the framework of a classical tradition. Active since 2013, the group has released Suspiro (2019) and Nun v’annamurate (2024) and has performed at festivals around the world, helping to bring Neapolitan song back into dialogue with the present.
