The Lugano New Year's Concert, which has now become a fixed appointment to celebrate together the arrival of the new year, returns on the 31st of December with the Austro-Iranian cellist Kian Soltani and OSI’s Principal Guest Conductor Krzysztof Urbański.

Soltani, among the most sought-after cellists on the international music scene, is able to create an immediate emotional connection with his audience, combining technical mastery with absolute expressive depth and a charismatic stage presence.

A guest performer with the world's leading orchestras, conductors and concert halls, Kian Soltani is the winner of numerous international awards, including the Opus Klassic Awards 2022 in the Innovative Listening Experience category, the Leonard Bernstein Award 2017, the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award 2017 and the International Paulo Cello Award 2013.

The young musician is accompanied by the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI) and by Maestro Krzysztof Urbański in Friedrich Gulda’s Concerto for cello and wind orchestra. This is followed by the suggestive atmospheres of the Slavonic dances for orchestra No. 1-8 op. 46 by Antonín Dvorák.
