The Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes – defined by the “New York Times” as a “master of elegance, power and introspection” – recently made a very successful appearances as a soloist in Mozart's piano concertos with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, as a partner in Schubert’s great Lieder cycles (Winterreise and Schöne Müllerin) alongside Matthias Goerne and performing duos with fellow pianist Marc-André Hamelin. In Lugano, he will present a solo recital shared between rediscoveries (works by Sibelius, the father of Scandinavian music) and contemporary music (Schubert reminiscences by one of the greatest contemporary composers, Jörg Widmann), without forgetting the classics of Romanticism: Beethoven’s Sonata in D minor “The Tempest” and Chopin’s Ballade No 1 in G minor, which Liszt had defined as “A soul’s odyssey”.
