Johann Sebastian Bach
Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248
Bach worked every day to build a work that still amazes today by its size and quality of its artistic invention. In Leipzig, where he spent the last twenty-seven years of his life as Cantor of the St. Thomas Church, he wrote some of his greatest sacred masterpieces such as the St Matthew Passion, the Mass in B minor and the joyful Magnificat. It was also in Leipzig that Bach conceived the Oratorium Tempore Nativitatis Christi (Christmas Oratorio): the most ambitious, imposing and complex musical architecture of his whole production. No introduction is required to unveil the miraculous beauty of this monument.
