Jean-Guihen Queyras cello / Alexandre Tharaud piano

Bach, Šostakovič, Berg, Brahms

Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and pianist Alexandre Tharaud have known each other for twenty-five years. "Our duet is also a story of friendship" assures the former First Cello of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, who with shares Tharaud the same magnificent technical qualities and musical curiosity. The programme will give evidence of the duets openness with works Bach and Shostakovich, Berg and Brahms (whose complete works for cello and piano the duet has recently recorded). Queyras claims to "love playing very different music and putting forward different aesthetic relationships". By placing Berg before Brahms, he "loves" to make the audience aware of the cross-references between two composers whose distance from one another is only in appearance.
