Antonín Dvořák
Cello Concerto in B minor, Op.104

Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony no. 7 in A major, Op.92

For its second concert in the present LuganoMusica season, the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana will perform under the baton of an illustrious guest conductor, David Zinman. The American musician, pupil of the legendary Pierre Monteux, is well known by music-lovers for having left a deep imprint on the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. During his twenty-year tenure as music director at the Tonhalle (1995-2014), Zinman made many recordings (including the Beethoven and Mahler complete symphonies) and launched the innovative “Tonhalle Late” music encounters. On 30th May, Zinman and the Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk will face Dvořák’s Cello concerto in B minor, which is perhaps the most beautiful cello concert ever written in the course of the 19th century. On hearing such a grandiose work, Dvořák’s admired colleague Johannes Brahms regretted not having written himself a similar concerto.
