The Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana presents a selection of works from the Giancarlo and Danna Olgiati Donation. As a result of a long and fruitful partnership between the Olgiatis and the Museo Cantonale d’arte, which merged with the Museo d’Arte di Lugano to create MASI in 2015, the donation includes a corpus of 77 works by Swiss, Italian and international artists.

Visitors are offered an opportunity to view a large number of the donated works and to understand their importance for the Museum’s collection. The scenography illustrates the many connections between the Museum’s collection and the Donation’s, between the artists exhibited by the Museum and those included in the Donation. In some cases, the donated works complete the corpus of work of a single artist already represented in the Museum’s collection.

The importance of the Olgiati Donation in MASI’s collection is best expressed in the apparent concurrence with the Museum’s principal lines of development, relating to the institution’s specific location in Swiss cultural geography, characterised by the intense interweave of cultural references from north and south of the Alps.
