Although Paul Lewis has made proof of his full artistic potential in a vast repertoire, Beethoven occupies the centre of his recent activities. Since 2005, the British pianist has played all 32 Piano Sonatas in a series of recitals throughout Europe and America. In the first part of his Lugano recital, Lewis will achieve a balance between integrity and imagination with two highly atmospheric Beethoven works, the Sonata Quasi una fantasia in E flat major and the "Moonlight" Sonata. In the second part, Schubert's Sonata No.18, known as the Sonata-Fantasia, abounds in those splendid Schubertian digressions that lead far-away on a seemingly aimless musical journey.
