Igor Stravinsky
Symphony in C
The second symphonic evening with the Orchestra Mozart will also border between classicism and neoclassicism. The first half of the concert will be devoted to Mozart's Don Giovanni Overture and the Prague Symphony, two masterpieces that reflect the particular atmosphere that marked the composer's mature period. Stravinsky's Symphony in C is an illustration of how the Russian musician turned his back on the musical avant-garde in the twenties and thirties of the past century to reunite the classical and baroque forms. Stravinsky's personality continuously infiltrates the styles of Haydn and Beethoven – of which this work is totally pervaded – submitting his predecessors to the scrutiny of his own harmonic imprint and sense of rhythm.
