One of the most curious musical fashions that prevailed in past centuries – the 18th century in particular – was the “Turquerie”, whose unusual effects aimed at giving the impression of listening to Middle Eastern, almost exotic music. Mozart produced some of the most remarkable output in this vein and the Borromini Quartet wishes to track back to the source, accompanied by Taylan Arikan, one of the best advocates of Turkish music.

The young Turkish musician Ipek Gorgun – a daring experimenter in a wide field of electronic music ranging from composition to DJ performance – offers her own interpretation of Stravinsky’s Firebird. This manipulation results is a free reworking of the piece, where the crossing of style and time results in a major short-circuit.

Comparing – both for affinity and contrast – music pieces that are chronologically very remote, but sometimes surprisingly close: such is the challenge set up by two singers, Dominique Vellard and Giacomo Schiavo, and two saxophonists, Pierre-Stéphane Meugé and Marcus Weiss. Richard Strauss plays a special role in the course of their musical journey, which carries the listener from the Middle Ages through to present days.
