Don Quixote, Op. 35
A Hero's Life (Ein Heldenleben), symphonic poem, Op.40
Philippe Jordan – son of the unforgettable music director of the Orchestre de la Suisse romande, Armin Jordan – will conduct the season’s last concert on 11th June. Philippe Jordan is music director of two prestigious institutions: the Opéra de Paris and the Wiener Symphoniker. It is with this great Viennese orchestra that LuganoMusica will present a diptych devoted to Richard Strauss, whose Alpine Symphony was recently brilliantly recorded by Jordan and the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris. The works on the Lugano programme are no less famous: Don Quixote, tone poem with solo cello (Gauthier Capuçon, a very much appreciated soloist in many editions of the Progetto Argerich) and A Hero’s Life, apotheosis of the tone poem in an autobiographical form: struggle, achievements, renunciation and fulfilment of the artist-hero faced to his enemies and the world.
