Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Piano concert no. 20 in D minor, K466
Symphony no. 5 in C sharp minor
This concert welcomes Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the eclectic and dynamic Colombian conductor who brought the Frankfurt Radio Symphony into the limelight and with which he has since fulfilled prestigious residences (Vienna and Salzburg) and long European tours. Having studied conducting with Swarowsky in Vienna (where he now lives), Andrés Orozco-Estrada shares his activities between the American continent (music director in Houston and principal guest conductor of the Colombian Youth Philharmonic) and Europe. Rudolph Buchbinder also comes from the world’s musical capital: the celebrated Austrian pianist will open this concert with Mozart’s famous Piano Concerto in D minor K. 466. The second half of the concert will be devoted to Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, a monumental masterpiece that includes the poignant and rightly famous Adagietto.
