Violinist Julian Rachlin and Israeli pianist Itamar Golan were both born in Lithuania and the two of them were still very young when they emigrated. Rachlin went to Austria and continued his studies in Vienna, whereas Golan headed for Israel. Since many years, they form a solid and magnificent duo capable of igniting a vast and eclectic repertoire (as attested in the recordings made for the most prestigious labels such as Warner Classics, Sony Classical and Deutsche Grammophon). In 2000, Rachlin began to play the viola, an instrument with which he will open the concert on the LAC’s stage on 27th February, playing Shostakovich’s last composition, the Viola Sonata op. 147. He will then go back to his Stradivarius to perform some little gems by Antonín Dvořák (4 Romantic Pieces), followed by one of the masterpieces of the 19th century French chamber music: César Franck’s Sonata in A minor.
