Ciaccona Violin Partita no. 2 in D minor, BWV1004
arranged for piano by Ferruccio Busoni

Since winning the 1983 Ciani Prize in Milan, Andrea Lucchesini has become a much-acclaimed soloist who stands out for the originality of his programmes, which have for instance led the artist from Schumann’s Kinderszenen to Debussy or combined Scarlatti’s visionary 18th century with Luciano Berio’s microcosm. For his forthcoming Lugano concert, Lucchesini has a trip to Italy lined up, starting with a half-dozen Scarlatti jewels and moving on to Muzio Clementi’s singular G minor Sonata (which describes Didone abbandonata) before leading up to Busoni’s transcription of the famous Bach Chaconne. As an overture, Lucchesini will perform the world premiere of the piece LuganoMusica commissioned the Italian composer Fabio Vacchi to write. After the first hearing of Jörg Widmann’s piece, the season will thus continue to pay its tribute to highly qualitative contemporary music.
