Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Bella mia fiamma... Resta o cara,
recitative and aria for soprano and orchestra, KV 528
Ah lo previdi! Ah, t’invola agl’occhi miei,
recitative and aria in C minor for soprano and orchestra, KV 272
Symphony no. 4 in G major, for orchestra with soprano solo
Having aroused considerable interest through a successful performance of the complete Brahms symphonies with the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Markus Poschner has now chosen Mahler’s beloved Symphony No 4 in G major for his first concert in the present season. The work was written between 1899 and 1900 during the composer’s summer holidays in Styria and Carinthia. After Mahler’s preceding titanic trilogy, the Fourth Symphony reverts to an architecture in four movements and a more condensed profile. The particularly seductive final movement entrusts the angelic voice of the soprano with the song “The Heavenly Life”. Swedish artist Maria Bengtsson, internationally acclaimed in leading Mozart roles, will sing this hymn to serenity and newfound peace.
